1.5 tons of fireworks uncovered at Beirut blast site

More than a ton of fireworks has been uncovered in Beirut at the port where a massive supply of chemicals exploded last month, leaving hundreds dead.

Lebanon’s army made the discovery in a warehouse during a search of the port, Reuters reported. Military engineers disposed of the 1.5 tons of fireworks, which were stacked in 128 boxes

The Aug. 4 blast is being blamed on 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate kept at the port, which is in the heart of the capital city. At least 190 lost their lives and roughly 6,000 suffered injuries.
